Get Yourself Out Of Debt (Part I)

Everywhere you look you’re bound to see advertisements of companies offering you help with your finances and guaranteeing that they will get you out of debt and rebuild your credit. My strong advice to you is to stay away from any such company. The only way to get out of debt and remain out of it is through personal conviction, time, and planning and good implementation.

All you’d be doing by signing up with one of these credit repair companies is parting with more money, only to see them run away with it, after having done nothing substantial to help with the repayment of your debt. First figure out what your situation is exactly and them devise a plan as to how you’re going to repay your debt. You know your finances better than anybody, so take the lead and do it on your own. It’s the best way to go about it.

The truth is that a lot of companies simply scam you. Although they promise to help you rebuild your credit, whereby making you eligible for a car loan, home loan, insurance or mortgage, they actually just take you money and do nothing about it. The last thing you want to do when in debt is to part with more money.

Spotting a scam

There are certain marks of a scam credit repair offer or company.
• When you have to pay up before receiving any services.
• When you’re not made aware of how you can help yourself free of charge.
• When you are not informed of your legal rights.
• Beware when you’re told not to contact a credit reporting company directly.
• Being told to invent a new credit identity and credit report by applying for an employment identification number instead of your social security number.
• When a company is advising you to go an illegal route like creating a new credit identity.

The truth is that you can be prosecuted for mail and wire fraud if you submit wrong information while applying for credit by mail or on the phone. It is a federal crime to lie on a loan application, misrepresent your social security number, and to obtain an employment identification number under false pretenses.

Please note that credit repair companies are required by law to take their payment only after they have successfully completed your work.

If avoidable, credit repair companies should definitely be avoided. Why not get your credit on track yourself when it is more than possible to do so.
