Given the cut throat competition in today’s world, people find themselves working up to over fourteen hours a day in order to make a living and to be able to support a family and satisfy all their wants. In the process though, everyone’s health is taking a beating. It is seen that health standards are decreasing and this is a cause of worry for you. It is not only workload of work that affects out health, but also epidemics, natural calamities and burning environmental hazards. This is why you need good health insurance.
You never know when you’re going to suffer medical setbacks and so it’s always good to be prepared for it at anytime. This is what today’s health insurances provide you with. Since health insurance is in great demand and there are lots of companies offering it, the competition has meant that good services are provided at reasonable rates, much to the delight of consumers.
The four basic health plans provided by the American health care program are:
• HMO Plans – these plans require you to pay a monthly premium in advance for every health related issue of yours to be taken care of. These plans are offered by Health Maintenance Organizations and are the most inexpensive of all. HMOs cover a wide range of medical problems. A list of service providers in given to all subscribers, who are then asked to choose a ‘primary care giver’, who will supervise and coordinate the subscriber’s health care.
• POS Plans – These plans are similar to HMOs, but do offer you more choice. Although more expensive when compared to HMO plans, POSs allow you to decide against going to the physician referred by your primary care giver.
• PPO Plans – this stands for Preferred Provider Organizations. These plans offer discounted rates. PPOs cover a range of medical issues like doctors, clinics, hospitals, etc. They do cost more than the first two kinds of plans though. PPO plans allow you to avail of services outside of the network as well. This is something HMO plans don’t allow you.
• Fee-for-service Plans – Also called Indemnity plans, these are the simplest of the plans. Each case is compensated for on an individual basis. For instance, if you go in for an X-Ray at a hospital, the hospital has to send a claim to your insurance agency, which then pays the hospital. After considering all your options though, the fee-for-service scheme turns out to be the most expensive of all.
A smart way to shop for health insurance is to do it online. These days you can get all the necessary information online. Not just that, you can also get quotes from company websites.
