These methods can broadly be classified into the traditional and the modern methods.

Tried and tested traditional methods

· Use your business card to your advantage. A lot of people underestimate the importance and effectiveness of business cards. Your card will disseminate information about you rapidly, leading to more business. You card must contain all the necessary information about you and should also contain your contact details.
· Use all the opportunities for networking that come your way. This is one of the most effective means of promoting yourself and your services. Attend as many seminars, social gatherings, conventions and lectures as you can.
· You should go up to people and talk to them about your business and try convincing them that there’s something in it for them too. Always provide your contact information so that people can get in touch with you later on.
· Promote your services through direct mail. This entails sending out sales letters, brochures and pamphlets detailing your work. Your material should be convincing and gripping, only then will you get a good number of responses.
· Although a lot of people hate it, cold calling can sometimes work to your advantage. It may be worth a shot. You may get an important client or two through this method. You have nothing to lose. Again, don’t forget to provide them with your contact information.

· Prepare a good newsletter. Newsletters are proving to be extremely effective these days. It should carry informative articles about your services to lure more leads.
· With the Internet being everyone’s one stop shop for everything under the sun, it is absolutely essential that you get a website made for yourself. It should display regularly updated information and should provide visitors with a way to get in touch with you.
· Direct mailing through the Internet is another important method of self-promotion. The advantage of direct mailing through the Internet is that it is free and you can change the content anytime you wish to.
